Tour Inspiration

Tuscany & Piedmont, Italy
Hosting this group for the fourth time, we delivered an unforgettable Italian experience for all 20 guests — both riders and non-riders alike.

Over four days in Siena, the group explored the stunning roads of Chianti, tackled the iconic white gravel of the Strade Bianche, and even traced the legendary path of Cadel Evans’ 2010 Giro d’Italia stage win into Montalcino.

From there, we journeyed northwest to Torino — a hidden gem that quickly became a favorite. This elegant city offers not only rich history and culture, but also incredible cycling through the Langhe wine region, the nearby Alps, and the legendary climb to Superga.

Meanwhile, the non-riding guests enjoyed a curated program filled with immersive experiences: guided hikes, cooking classes, wine tastings, and expert-led food and history tours.

Each day, both groups came together for shared meals, relaxed afternoons, and unforgettable evenings. By day five, the same question echoed through the group: Where are we going next?
'Certainly a very big thankyou for a wonderful trip – seamless as always and every detail worked out. A tremendous support group and very impressive how they all interacted.' - Chris, Young Australia
Budapest to Berlin
When one of our regular groups asked for something bigger, we created B2B — a five-country, 1,000km adventure filled with unforgettable moments, incredible riding, and memories that will last a lifetime.

Starting in Budapest, we made our way through Bratislava, Prague, and finally into Berlin, riding quiet backroads across Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic. The landscapes changed daily, but what stayed constant were the warm welcomes, rich local food, and the unique charm of each place we visited.

Along the way, the group stayed in some truly special locations — a converted castle, a Czech brewery, charming guesthouses, and beautifully curated hotels. Each night offered a different dining experience, while cultural moments along the route gave us deeper insight into the people and traditions of Central Europe.

The riding was as diverse as the scenery — from the flat riverbanks of the Danube, to the rolling hills of Austria, and finally a dramatic ride past Berlin’s iconic landmarks, finishing triumphantly at the Brandenburg Gate.
'Have worked with Will for 8 years now on several European cycling trips. His attention to detail in taking us to Italy, Spain and from Budapest to Berlin was unmatched. Custom designed trips with outstanding riding, support, meals and accommodation.' - Richard, Melbourne Australia

La Vuelta a Espana
Experiencing La Vuelta firsthand is truly unforgettable. Different to the Tour de France, La Vuelta offers smaller crowds and a more relaxed pace, making it easier to connect with the race, the riders, and the vibrant atmosphere without the marathon days.
Combine that with spectacular cycling, exceptional food, rich culture, and stunning accommodations, and you have the perfect recipe for an extraordinary tour.

In 2014, our group began in San Sebastian, spending a few days riding, dining, and immersing themselves in the city’s unique culture. From there, we traced the race across northern Spain to conquer some of the most iconic climbs — Covadonga, Camperona, Somiedo, and Puerto de Ancares — culminating in witnessing Alberto Contador’s triumphant crowning in Santiago de Compostela.

The tour also featured VIP hospitality experiences and nights spent in historic castles and monasteries. Along the way, we crossed borders into France and Portugal, adding even more variety and richness to an already epic journey.
'It really was an incredible experience, and filled with lots of laughs, challenges (cycling that is) magnificent country side, incredible accommodation and food, and precision organisational skills, and the ability to cleverly adjust and massage plans to suit the day as it unfolded' - Gerard, NSW Australia

Raid Pyreneen
In 2024, we designed and hosted a special tour for a group eager to experience the best of the Pyrenees — its legendary riding, delicious food, and vibrant culture — all without the hassle of changing hotels every day. Over eleven days, the journey took in three prime cycling destinations: Girona, Argeles-Gazost, and San Sebastian.

Girona is a true cycling mecca, known for its stunning routes, passionate cycling community, numerous bike shops, and fantastic food scene. Highlights included iconic rides like Rocacorba and the Hincapie loop, along with some hidden gems favoured by our locally based guide and his friends.

In Argeles-Gazost, the group conquered classic climbs such as the Soulor and Aubisque in epic conditions. Although the Tourmalet was off-limits due to a landslide, we took on a worthy alternative in the Hautacam and some lesser-known backroads that didn’t disappoint.

Finally, San Sebastian ranked as one of our favourite European destinations — a sentiment our guests fully shared. From breathtaking coastal and inland rides to world-class cuisine and rich culture, San Sebastian truly is a must-visit.
'Third Euro cycling trip in Spain24 with Will and the terrific Higher Ground support team, and once again had a ball. Tapping into his team's local networks, Will sources excellent ride locations and accommodation, restaurants and experiences.' - Peter, Melbourne Australia

Le Tour de France
Few experiences top the bucket list of any cycling enthusiast like witnessing Le Tour de France live. Since 2010, we’ve been proudly hosting groups at Le Tour, and each year brings the same excitement and unforgettable moments as the last.
Over time, we’ve learned the best ways to experience this iconic race and love sharing those insights with our guests.

Whether it’s riding ahead of the pros on the race route, reliving childhood excitement as the famous caravan passes by, mingling with riders in the start village, or being there for a mountaintop finish, Le Tour truly has it all.

For our groups, we carefully craft balanced itineraries that combine the thrill of Le Tour with the region’s finest rides, stunning scenery, delicious food, and rich local culture. There’s hardly a corner of France we haven’t explored alongside the race, and each region offers its own unique charm.
'Higher Ground curated and delivered an unforgettable experience. Every day was a new adventure, supported with incredible guides, and filled with delicious feasts. Cannot recommend Will and his team highly enough.' - Christine, Sydney Australia

Lake Como & Tuscany
Our private group was eager to enjoy a blend of challenging and leisurely rides, breathtaking scenery, and authentic Italian culture. Hosted by our expert local guides, Andrea and Ingo, the tour centred around the stunning Lake Como region in Northern Italy before exploring the very best of Tuscany.

As part of the journey, the group experienced the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Bernina Express railway, traveling from Tirano to St. Moritz, and visited the Ghisallo Cycling Museum and Chapel — a revered stop on the iconic Il Lombardia pro race route.

In Tuscany, we crafted a series of rides through historic villages like San Gimignano and Gaiole in Chianti, alongside the region’s famous scenic backroads that showcase its timeless beauty.

One of the tour’s most unforgettable moments was joining Andrea’s extended family for a Sunday night dinner in their 12th-century mill — a truly special experience and one of many highlights of the trip.
'In a nutshell, we had a truly amazing time. Challenging, but achievable, and such varied scenery/areas/everything which was pretty awesome given the time we had.' - Kristi, Melbourne Australia

Provence & Beaujolais
In 2017, we hosted a group eager to combine fantastic riding with exceptional food and wine. While they were open to the occasional challenging ride, their preference was mostly for rolling roads and shorter climbs.

The tour we designed showcased two distinct yet equally beautiful regions: Provence and Beaujolais.

In Provence, the group enjoyed stunning rides through fragrant lavender fields around Gordes, cycled to Châteauneuf-du-Pape for a private wine tasting and lunch, and tackled one of our favorite day rides — Mont Ventoux and the Gorges de la Nesque.

Beaujolais, a lesser-known cycling destination, offered scenic roads winding through vineyards and the short but challenging climb of Mont Brouilly, a regular feature in Paris-Nice. Post-ride, we arranged memorable lunches at local châteaux, complete with private tours and tastings of their exceptional wines.
'Everyone was raving about the trip we had with you. Great times - it could not have been better.' - Don and Lesley, Ontario Canada

New Zealand Gravel
The growth in gravel cycling has been exponential in the last few years. We have done plenty of gravel cycling as part of our Italian tours, and a lot in our own backyard in the Victorian High Country.

Our group wanted to get away but didn't have the time to head to Europe so we have designed a gravel adventure in the South Island of New Zealand. Over a week the group will ride, fully supported, from close to Christchurch through to Queenstown.

Stunning back roads and trails, unique accommodation, great dining and even the chance to try Curling await.
